Can I change my name in high school for next year?

my dad registered my full name, but i didn't like it because it seems too long. is it possible if i can change it to my first name only or to my nickname, so it would appear on my transcripts for next year. i just want to know so if i cant change it i dont have to ask the guidance counselor on friday.
