Is it illegal to paint a room with trademark characters?

I'm quite curious as to the responses I'll receive on this one, but if someone was painting a room (like a baby room) and using trademark characters (like baby looney tunes or winnie the pooh) is it illegal? Not for profit, it's a room in their house.
